This is the first book of its kind for identifying the wild flowers of Himalaya, from Kashmir and Ladakh to the Nepal-Sikkim border in the east. The authors describe som 1500 species found mostly above 1200 m in theupper valleys, the hills, and higher montainous regions to about 5000 m.

There are iver 690 color photographs of plants taken in the field, and 315 line drawings of plants made in the field or from herbarium specimens. More than a thousand species are illustrated in total.

There is also an account of where to go plant-hunting in the Himalaya, and at what seasons of the year. Brief descriptions of types of climate, geology, soils, altitude effects, and the activities of man and a bibliography.

This book is written for the laymn and the keen naturalist, but it is based on the Himalayan collections of hte British Museum (Natural history), to which both authors have contributed considerably compiled “Enumeration of the flowering plants of Nepal” published by the Museum.
